Democrat’s Leyton, Flint and a Failure to Fight Crime

Leyton, Flint and a Failure to Fight Crime
The Democrat attack campaign has already begun.  And now they’re turning their distortions on an outstanding leader and former Appeals Court Judge, Bill Schuette.

After years of failure, the Democrats have chosen not to fix the problems affecting families by improving safety in Michigan, but instead to engage in the politics of personal destruction by attacking the Republican nominee for Attorney General.

“Frankly, given the Democratic Party’s record on crime the past eight years – closing more than one dozen prisons, releasing thousands of dangerous criminals, and presiding over the layoffs of more than 2,300 law enforcement officers — I’d run from that record, too. It’s a prescription for putting public safety at risk,” Anuzis said.

FBI crime statistics rank Flint as one of the most dangerous and crime-ridden cities in America. Violence is so out of control in David Leyton’s city that just a month ago, the Flint Journal ran this headline:

Haunted by homicides: Flint reaches 34 slayings in seven months, on pace to hit 1986 record

Just this past year, community leaders in Flint have called for the National Guard to be deployed, because of the continuing violence.

“Lectures on law enforcement from Leyton are laughable. He had one city to fight crime in and he’s failed,” Anuzis added.

The citizens of Flint deserve better. Michigan deserves better.  Instead of constantly engaging in negative attacks and smear campaigns, Democrats should focus on improving public safety and making our schools and or neighborhoods more secure.

Vote Your Favorite – Ignore Attacks/Dirty Politics

We have some great candidates running for our statewide ticket.  Unfortunately, there are those who are more than willing to launch a negative campaign against others and even worse, not sign their names to these attacks.

Support whomever you please…we are lucky to have a great crop of candidates and some real choices to make at this convention.  Ignore the negative attacks, especially the unsigned garbage…if they work, we ALL lose.

GOP Takes Historic Lead in Generic Ballot

“The latest Gallup generic ballot test shows the Republicans leading the Democrats by the largest spread in the history of the generic ballot. Republicans lead by seven points — 50 percent to 43 percent. This also appears to be the first time Republicans have ever hit 50 percent in the history of the Gallup generic ballot.”

To put things into perspective, Democrats won 257 seats in 2008, and won the national vote by eleven points.

It’s nothing but good news about Rick’s campaign, but there is much to do.  We need every Republican, Independent, Democrat and Tea Party vote we can pull together to help turn Michigan around.

As I travel our state, you can feel the excitement and commitment to turning a new page.  We feel like we’ve been ‘blown away’ and are looking for ‘real change’ we can count on…and Rick’s in great position to lead that effort.

Join us and do your part…whatever it is.  Every effort counts, every effort matters!

John Stossel’s Broken Window Fallacy -

The Fallacy that Govt Spending Creates Jobs?!?

A great analysis and explanation on why “government” work is little more than what economists call the “broken window fallacy”.  Make shift work doesn’t create real jobs.

Yet another Soros tentacle exposed –

The Religious Left?!?

Sojourners revenues have more than tripled-from $1,601,171 in 2001-2002 to $5,283,650 in 2008-2009-as secular leftists have learned to use the religious left to elect Obama and others.

R.I.P. Pam Posthumus

Obituary for Pam Posthumus

Pam Posthumus, age 59, of Alto, passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2010 surrounded by her family.

Pam was raised in West Michigan with her siblings Gail Krug; Brenda Horn (Mike); and Bruce Bartz.  She married her high school sweetheart Dick Posthumus on June 23, 1972, and together they raised their four children: Krista Beach (Rex); Lisa Lyons (Brad); Heather Posthumus; and Bryan Posthumus.  A servant by nature, Pam lovingly provided care for her mother-in-law, Lola Posthumus.  Her greatest legacy is her seven grandchildren who called her “Grammy”, to whom she read stories and sung lullabies: Jayden, Royce, and Nadia Beach; and Easton, Charlie, Gage, and Fisher Lyons.  Her legacy of love will continue in those grandchildren yet to come.

Pam treasured spending time with her grandkids, traveling with her girlfriends, and watching sunsets with Dick on their farm and up north at their cottage.

A faithful woman who believed in miracles and angels, she left a mark on the lives of so many, showing her love with not words but actions.  She loved her kids by the way she dropped everything to be at their games, help with 4-H projects, and providing a nurturing home.  She loved her friends by opening her home to them and being there for them through their joys and sorrows.  Pam loved her husband most of all.  A loyal and loving partner, she was truly the wind beneath his wings, her worth far above rubies.

She was the Second Lady of Michigan (1999-2003), but first in the hearts of those who loved her.

Visitation will be at Ada Bible Church on Monday, August 23 from 1:00-3:00 pm and 5:00-8:00 pm.  The funeral service will be at Ada Bible Church on Tuesday, August 24 at 2:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Jeff Manion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Children’s Trust Fund, an organization once led by Pam that helps prevent child abuse and neglect.  Contributions should be mailed to Grand Tower Suite 1411, PO Box 30037, Lansing, MI 48909.

79 Days Left Until the General Election!!!

Rick Snyder for Governor

Since the primary I’ve taken dozens of calls and emails about why Rick Snyder?  Really?

Jobs, jobs, jobs!  No three words better describe why Michigan Republicans, Independents, Democrats and Tea Party activists’ should/MUST rally behind Rick’s campaign.

Think about it Virg Bernero vs Rick Snyder?!?

Rick is the ONLY proven job creator who understands what needs to be done.  He has his priorities straight and we need to do all we can to help him turn Michigan around.  Let’s make it Governor Snyder!

Benishek for Congress – He’s our GOP Nominee

Here is Dan’s statement from last night: “When the votes were tallied the count between Senator Jason Allen and myself came down to one of the closest margins in history. Today Senator Allen demonstrated that he is a man who puts his country, his conservative principles and his party ahead of his own interests.  While I am new to this political arena, I have learned very quickly how invested you become in winning, along with your family, your friends and your supporters.  It is not easy to step back and do what is in the interest of the party, and ultimately the country, and to give Republicans the best chance of winning by laying down arms as adversaries and moving forward together as allies.  To make the decision to step aside when your instincts are to fight, takes great courage and selflessness.  I will never forget, nor should the voters of this district forget, the courage that Jason has shown.  Today we stand together as Republicans.  I greatly appreciate Jason’s support and would be honored to have him and his supporters stand with us as we work to defeat Gary McDowell and take back our government from the failed policies of Nancy Pelosi and her liberal friends in Congress.”

County Conventions Across Michigan

Thousands of Republican, new and old activists, gathered Thursday night to select delegates and alternates to our August 28th convention.  After talking to leaders from across the state, it is clear, Michigan Republicans are excited and motivated to make a difference this fall!  Together, yes we can

Save the date…we’ll see you there!

Snyder Holds An Impressive Lead in Latest Poll

Let’s keep this in perspective. It is early. The race will tighten. Democrats will run the nastiest, most vitriolic campaign in Michigan history against Rick. Now is not the time to let up. Keep the intensity up.

That said, the Republican base is solidly behind Rick. This is the second poll in a week where 85 percent or higher of Republicans are supporting Rick. 67 percent of Pro-life households are supporting him.

However, the race isn’t over until it’s over…we will need EVERY vote to win this election.

WDIV has the best story on the poll:

A Good Analysis:

Great Lake States – All Races, Great And Small

“…in politics, timing is everything, and now the GOP looks poised to make new gains in key races that could give Republicans a long-term toehold in a region that has trended away from them for the last decade.”

Memo to Republicans: It’s Big Government, Stupid! – Avoid Cultural War Trap

The suburban voters the GOP desperately needs aren’t culture warriors. But they’re mad as hell about what the Democrats are doing to the economy.  Cultural issues are important and our candidates support our values, but those aren’t the issues independent swing voters care about today…its Jobs!

On a sweeping tour through Michigan, presidential hopeful and Governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty criss-crossed Michigan helping raise money for the Snyder for Governor campaign, Macomb County GOP and others.  A rising star amongst Republicans nationwide, Pawlenty continues to work tirelessly to help Republicans win this November.  Glad to have him in Michigan!  Thanks.

Michigan Congressional Opportunities

At least 3 of our challengers have received national attention for races as they take on Democrats: Tim Walberg vs Mark Schauer, Rocky Rackowski vs Gary Peters and Dan Benisheck to fill Bart Stupak’s seat.

However, Michigan has several other seats that normally are NOT considered “competitive”, but in a year like this…opportunity maybe knocking?!?

CD-5 John Kupiec

John is a Genesee County businessman challenging long time Cong. Dale Kildee.  This is a seat that is in play during a “wave” election. For more information go to:  http://johnkupiecforcongress.com/

CD-15 Rob Steele

Rob is a medical doctor putting on an impressive race against the longest serving Congressman ever – big John Dingell.  At a time when America is looking for change, check out his campaign:

86 Days Left Until the General Election!!!

Let’s Make It Governor Rick Snyder!

Rick Snyder won an impressive primary victory over a great field of candidates this last Tuesday.  Republicans are poised to take the Governor’s office back — with a successful businessman, proven leader and creative thinker.  Let’s bring it home!!!

Congress to Get A Couple of Strong Conservatives

Impressive primary victories in Michigan’s Republican strong holds with Justin Amash and Bill Huizenga; Michigan will send Congress a few solid, common-sense conservatives to help restore constitutional governance with supporters of limited government!  I couldn’t be more excited!

Michigan’s Swing Seats for real “hope & change”

Former Congressman Tim Walberg won handily as he prepared to take back his old and very competitive seat in mid-Michigan.  At the same time,  Rocky Rackowski prepares to challenge Democrat Gary Peters in a suburban Oakland county seat.  Competitive seats that will need out help!

RNC Meeting in Kansas City

We just completed our meetings this week in Kansas City with the Republican National Committee.  Top on the agenda were proposed rules changes to the 2012 presidential nominating process.

The rules passed and the major changes include:

  1. 1) moving the start date from February to March
  2. 2) early carve outs for IA, NH, SC and NV
  3. 3) proportional delegate allocation for pre-April primaries.

You can see a copy of the actual rules and the background here:

2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa

We also finalized and signed the deal to have the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.  A great city that promises to provide for a great venue to kick of taking America back!

Congressman Mike Rogers’ Facebook ‘Widget’ Breaks New Ground

“The widget takes advantage of the most up-to-date communications technology for bringing information to thousands of constituents in a way that allows them to be interactively engaged on national issues that impact them and their families directly,” Rogers said. “In Michigan, we all want to know if Congress is taking action to spur job creation, stop our spiraling debt, and adopt health care reform that really makes life better for citizens instead of making government bigger. Having that information when it is current means having a chance to interact with a member of Congress on matters of concern in real time rather than long after the fact.

“You cannot get much closer than that to the democracy envisioned by our founding fathers.”

Rogers said constituents can embed the widget in their personal Facebook or other social networking location. Doing that is simple: copy the widget from Rogers’ Facebook page and paste the embedded code into your profile on your own Facebook page. The widget includes a Viral Accelerator which means that friends can copy the widget to their own preferred site – from friend to friend to friend.

93 Days Left Until the General Election!!!

Primaries Fire Up Republicans with November NEXT!

This week Michigan Republicans head to the polls to nominate OUR candidates to represent our party this November.  We have had some tough fought primaries that if handle honorably; help us emerge stronger and better prepared to defeat the Democrats.

Don’t buy into cheap political tricks, dirty politics, negative ads and unsubstantiated charges to “fool” voters.  Support whichever candidate you chose on their merits.  Vote for the person who you believe will do the best job and don’t let the “bad guys” who abuse the public’s trust win!

As our nominees are selected Tuesday night…Republicans will have put forth one of the best field of candidates Michigan Republicans have seen in years.  We’re motivated and ready to win!

National Conference of State Legislators

This week I attended the NCSL Conference in Louisville, KY.  Thousands of legislators and staff from around the country attended.  At the Republican luncheon former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie gave an update and predicted some big wins for the GOP at the Congressional, Governor and Legislative levels.

His overall message was that Republicans were about to be given back “control of the pen” for budgets, taxes and reapportionment.  A great opportunity and yes, responsibility.

RNC Meeting Next Week

Members of the Republican National Committee meet next week in Kansas City.  Top on our agenda is the finalization of the rules process of the 2012 nominating process.  I’ve shared with you the proposed rules and you can see the exact language here, on my blog:
